We also visited a very old castle.
Yesterday we travelled across Belgium to meet up with Adam. On the way we stopped at the town of Sint Niklaas. Do you recognise Sint Niklaas?
At a museum we walked through reconstructed underground trenches. The bunk beds were just wire with no mattresses or pillows. This would have been luxury as many soldiers had to sleep on the ground in open trenches. The toilets were holes in the ground but there was a seat!
We visited the site of another battle at Hooge Hill. There is a walk through what is now a peaceful wooland with a beautiful pond. They have reconstructed open trenches and displayed artillery found in the area. The pond used to be craters from explosions and the area would have been muddy and bare of trees.
In Belgium there were a lot of battles in the First World War. In Ypres there is a memorial called the Menin Gate. Every night they have a special ceremony where the buglers play the Last Post. The night we were there British and Canadian soldiers also attended the ceremony. They marched to a piper. We also visited an enormous cemetery in Passendale where many, many soldiers lost their lives and are buried.
In the Netherlands was visited Kinderdijk where there were old traditional windmills. We also saw a lot of modern wind turbines.
The Grand Palace in Bangkok was amazing and highly decorated.
It was very, very hot and this iceblock was so refreshing.
Little Flash deciding what movie to watch. The plane trips were very tiring - about 10 hours to Bangkok, then another 10 to Vienna and 2 more to Amsterdam.
Little Flash is going on holiday with Mr and Mrs Coker. She is so excited because she will see Adam racing in the BMX. Please send Little flash some messages in the Comments box in Term 3.
